On Friday, Jan. 30, the University of Texas at Tyler announced its impressive list of Hall of Fame inductees for the 2026 season, which will take place on March 28. Among those set to be honored were Dr. Howard Patterson, the 2016 softball national championship team and former soccer superstar-turned-certified fitness coach Brittany Mahomes.

Mahomes and soccer

For those unaware, Mahomes has a long, storied history in the sport. The athlete played throughout high school, joining the Texas-Tyler Patriots women’s soccer team as a forward from 2013 to 2016. As noted by Athlon Sports, Mahomes remains second all-time in total points (78) and goals (31), while also boasting the best single-season run in program history (with 40 points and 18 goals). After college, she played professionally in Iceland for one year before officially retiring from the sport in 2017.

In the years following her retirement, Mahomes pursued her passion for fitness, becoming a certified personal trainer and launching Brittany Lynne Fitness. She then married Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in 2022, with whom she shares three children. Still, Mahomes’s love of soccer didn’t end when she exited the field—on the contrary, her passion only ramped up from there. Today, she’s a co-owner of the Kansas City Current, and, last November, she officially joined the National Women’s Soccer League’s first-ever advisory board.

Of her impending Hall of Fame induction, Mahomes told UT Tyler, “I’m honored to be inducted into the UT Tyler Athletics Hall of Fame. My time at UT Tyler played a huge role in shaping my life, career and the person I am today. I’m especially grateful to Coach Webb—her belief in me, leadership and constant support had an incredible impact on my journey both on and off the field. UT Tyler will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m so thankful for the experiences and the people who were part of making my time in Tyler one I will never forget.”

Fans react

Naturally, fans of the athlete were delighted to see her being honored in this way, taking to the school’s comment section on Instagram to cheer her on:

“Couldn’t be happier for a more wonderful family @brittanylynne,” Heart Of The Hustle Clothing’s official Instagram account penned, adding, “congratulations LEGEND...”

“Runs in the family,” one fan declared.

“The 🐐,” another simply added.

And we have to echo those sentiments: congratulations to Mahomes on her Hall of Fame induction!
