Hilary Duff Reveals What It Was Like Making Her Album With Husband Matthew Koma

Just three days after Hilary Duff’s latest album—her first in over a decade—debuted on Friday, Feb. 20, a conversation between the 38-year-old artist and 32-year-old All Her Fault actress Dakota Fanning was released with Interview Magazine.
In their discussion, Fanning posed a question about the dynamic between the Disney Channel alum and her husband, Matthew Koma, who serves as a producer on the 11-track collection, and picked Duff’s brain about the creation of her latest discography with Koma by her side.
Duff gushed in response, “One, the comfort I feel, having that guy in my corner—it sounds so cheesy to say, but waking up every day and taking on the things in our world—we’re such a unit.” She then reflected on her career trajectory, continuing, “Growing up in the industry, I felt like a lone rider for such a long time. That’s such a dorky word, but I was like, ‘I’m tough. I’ve got this.’ It took me a really long time to accept how much he could take off of my plate.”
The multihyphenate commanded TV screens in the early 2000s as Lizzie McGuire, alongside numerous big-screen appearances, including Agent Cody Banks (2003), A Cinderella Story (2004) and two Cheaper By The Dozen films (2003 and 2005), among others. Her reign spanned decades into the early 2020s with the series Younger (2015-2021) and How I Met Your Father (2022-2023). She married Koma in 2019.
Duff also told Fanning, “And then the fact that he’s insanely talented. I wasn’t interested in making a record with anyone else. I was like, ‘It has to just be me and you.’ The most honest stuff came from that because he has a front row to my life and everything I’ve experienced, the really difficult times and the really easy good times that made me who I am.” She concluded her response by telling the fellow actress that the pair “literally never fight”, which is something she noted she gets asked frequently regarding their intertwining career endeavors.
Prefacing the album’s release, Duff also disclosed that she will be hitting the road on the lucky me tour starting in June in West Palm Beach, Fla. The international tour spans three continents, North America, Europe and Australia, and wraps up in Feb. 2027 with its final stop in Mexico City.
