‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 Episode 2 Live Recap: Performances & Eliminations

As the ancient texts (i.e., that one viral video) once proclaimed: “It’s Wednesday, my dudes.”
And another Wednesday means another new episode of The Masked Singer! The hit FOX celebrity singing competition returned last week for the first episode of its 14th season, and with it came plenty of music, mystery and, of course, a little bit of drama.
In case you missed last week’s show
Last week’s premiere saw the return of the “detectives” panel, comprising Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke and Rita Ora. It was a special two-hour-long episode (with the program returning to its usual hour-long format this evening). It was also structured as a sort of competition within a competition, with two masked celebs going head-to-head in a sing-off, and whoever lost would be up for elimination.
First up was Galaxy Girl vs. Handyman, with the intergalactic lady coming out on top. Next, Pugcasso took on Queen Corgi, and the artist-themed pup secured their safety. Then, fans enjoyed Scarab vs. The Croissants, wherein Scarab not only won the sing-off, but also confirmed to the detectives that they’re “the most decorated” performer the show has “ever seen.”
Stingray battled Snowcone for their spot shortly after that, with the aquatic creature winning out over the frozen treat. Last but not least, Googly Eyes and Cat Witch lit up the stage with their respective performances, and Cat Witch left with all nine of her lives intact.

Last week’s elimination
The premiere was not only double in length, but also promised a double elimination, with the celebs who lost in their head-to-head battles on the chopping block. Ultimately, Googly Eyes and The Croissants were sent home, securing Handyman, Queen Corgi and Snowcone spots in the competition moving forward.
As the episode ended, the first to be unmasked was Googly Eyes, who was revealed to be David “Big Papi” Ortiz. Next were The Croissants, with the show teasing their reveal only to end on a cliffhanger without revealing their identities, promising their reveal in tonight’s episode.
This week’s theme
According to Rotten Tomatoes’ listed description of the episode: “A very special guest pays the panelists a visit...Johnny Knoxville; to receive crucial hints, the panelists must overcome their worst fears; the contestants take to the stage to share how they have faced their fears.”
The Croissants’ identities were revealed
Fans didn’t have to wait long to learn the identity of The Croissants after they were eliminated during last week’s premiere, as the second episode immediately began with their reveal. They were, in fact, Todd and Julie Chrisley, whom the panel had correctly guessed last week.
Le Who Who
Following the elimination, Le Who Who was the first new contestant to hit the stage this week. For hints, the mysterious celeb revealed that their films have earned “one billion at the box office,” and they also said they were a “late-night legend.” The contestant then launched into an energetic rendition of “One Way or Another” by Blondie, including a unique dance breakdown in the middle of the number.
After they finished their performance, Knoxville joined the panelists onstage, carrying a spooky-looking black box, which was revealed to be filled with snakes. To get the clue about the celeb’s identity, Ora had to reach inside, which she did without pause. The clue was “EGOT: loading at 50%.” McCarthy Wahlberg guessed comedian Leslie Jones, while Jeong thought they might be Wanda Sykes. Ora appeared confident, believing they were Tiffany Haddish.
High Voltage
High Voltage was up next, and their hints involved people previously calling them “a patriot, a revolutionary.” They also claimed they were someone who people might say “changed the fabric of American culture.” Then, the massive robot took to the stage for their rendition of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.
Knoxville returned to the panel with another box, and this time, Thicke was picked for the challenge. In the container was a fuzzy tarantula (which the audience did not care for at all). The clue this time around was “Rose Bowl.” Thicke guessed Conan O’Brien based on specific clues in the video package. Meanwhile, McCarthy Wahlberg thought they were Julian Edelman because of the “patriot” reference.
Calla Lily
Calla Lily shared a deeply personal story in their video package, revealing they had received a serious but unspecified diagnosis. Still, they said they planned to keep fighting and “loving without any fear.” They then made their way into the spotlight to give an emotional performance of “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten.
Ora called the performance “one of the most moving” in the show’s history. After applause, Knoxville returned with another box, and McCarthy had to fetch the clue from within a pile of rats. The clue this time around was a photo of a film slate. Ora guessed that they might be Selma Blair, believing the clue referred to an actress. On a similar note, Jeong guessed they might be Christina Applegate.
Owl
Many hints in the video package appeared to point to movies and filmmaking, including a bucket of popcorn from a theater. They also included some clips surrounding Christmastime, which the panelists took as a hint that this might be the star of a Christmas movie. Fittingly, “Wild Thing” by The Troggs was the song of choice for the nocturnal creature.
Knoxville returned with—you guessed it!—another box, and Jeong was the only remaining panelist left to do the challenge. The comedian had to reach inside and grab an envelope surrounded by millipedes, and the clue was a photo of a goat. Jeong guessed Matthew McConaughey based on their voice. However, McCarthy Wahlberg thought they might be Billy Bob Thornton based on their Hollywood past.
Eggplant
They saved the most absurd for last this week, ending the show with Eggplant, who sang “Rocketman” by Elton John. For hints, they noted that they have “five decades” worth of experience, and they also name-dropped “Jason Bateman, Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood” as people who would “endorse” them.
After their performance, Knoxville returned one final time, and host Nick Cannon was asked to retrieve the clue. Inside the box was a pile of cockroaches, and Cannon retrieved the envelope with ease. The clue was “Broadway.” Thicke felt confident that it was Martin Short, while Ora thought it might be Nathan Lane.
Who was eliminated?
After all the votes were compiled, Le Who Who was eliminated. Upon being unmasked, the character was revealed to be Tiffany Haddish, confirming Ora was correct in her original guess.
When is the next episode?
