‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 Episode 4 Live Recap: Performances and a Surprising Elimination

Welcome, readers, to another installment of our live update series following The Masked Singer!
This week, the popular FOX competition is heating up as we head into another pop culture-themed episode filled with fun song choices and wild predictions for the panel of detectives, comprising Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora.
Mind-blowing unmaskings
In case you missed it, last week saw the competition lose two more stars in a surprise double elimination. It was also the first time the contestants from the premiere episode got a second chance at performing on stage. After an entertaining sequence of mystery celebs, the votes were counted, and two celebs were sent home.
The first singer to be unmasked was Handyman. Ora originally guessed they might be Ice T based on the raspy voice and hints in the preroll footage. Meanwhile, keeping with the “T” theme, Jeong thought they might be Mr. T, which Thicke agreed was a good guess. After the unmasking, they were revealed to be hip-hop legend Tone Loc, whom Thicke had actually originally said on the premiere episode after their first performance.
The second elimination came as a shock to both the detectives and the audience, as Scarab was sent home. Throughout the first three episodes, the ancient Egyptian-themed costumed celeb was touted as the most decorated star the show had ever seen, so naturally, a lot of hype came with their reveal. Jeong thought the singer might be Cynthia Erivo, given multiple hints about their near-“EGOT” status. On the other hand, McCarthy Wahlberg believed they were Angela Bassett. Ultimately, they were revealed to be actress Taraji P. Henson, whom Ora had switched her final answer to seconds before she was unmasked.

This week’s theme
Looking ahead to tonight, the show is slated to be themed after those iconic sewer-dwelling, pizza-loving brothers, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Similar to last week, five masked celebs will take to the stage, four of whom performed in head-to-head battles on the premiere episode, alongside one brand-new entrant.
The returning bunch includes Cat Witch (whose true identity we already know, as this is the first year the show has revealed one singer to the audience, but not the detectives; they are Kylie Cantrall), Stingray, Galaxy Girl and Queen Corgi. The new addition is 14 Karat Carrot, who—you guessed it!—is, in fact, a golden version of the titular vegetable.
Cat Witch
The spooky-themed singer was up first, taking on “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry. As noted above, this contestant is the only one whose identity the audience already knows, though the detectives remain unaware of the truth.
As part of their clues, Cat Witch told the detectives they “starred in some incredible shows and movies—in fact, I think some of you may have watched them.” McCarthy Wahlberg guessed they might be Victoria Justice, given the preroll footage, while Thicke thought they were Ashley Tisdale. Meanwhile, Jeong believed they were LISA of BLACKPINK.
Stingray
As part of their preroll footage, the nautical character spotlighted their mother, who they referred to as an “oracle.” After the sweet message, they took to the stage to perform an emotional rendition of “Momma Song” by Benson Boone.
The detectives were moved by the performance, applauding Stingray’s vulnerability. For their clue, the mystery celeb teased that “owning a restaurant is just a part of [their] empire.” Both McCarthy Wahlberg and Ora immediately thought they might be Jaden Smith, based on clues about their famous family, while Thicke thought they were Patrick Schwarzenegger. Jeong, on the other hand, thought it was Donald Glover.
Galaxy Girl
Up next was the galactic goddess, who sang a high-energy version of “Just a Girl” by No Doubt. In their preroll footage, Galaxy Girl hinted that they might be a New York Times bestseller. They also told a story about a time when their team tried to control their image, but they broke free and changed their style overnight, saying their new look became “iconic.”
Their clue was a pair of jingle bells, and Galaxy Girl told the detectives, “Well, holidays are definitely an important time in my career. I love the holidays and the cheer.” Ora outright said this celeb was her favorite on the whole show, believing they might be Dixie D’Amelio. On a radically different note, Jeong thought they could be Anne Hathaway—though absolutely no one agreed. McCarthy Wahlberg then guessed Hilary Duff based on a clue that seemed to point toward the Teen Choice Awards, which Thicke was on board for.
Queen Corgi
This cute and cuddly competitor rocked the house with a performance of “Unstoppable” by Sia. Their preroll footage showed them living in New York City, with hints pointing at a potential stint on Saturday Night Live and a sold-out tour at Madison Square Garden. They also revealed that they’re a new mother, and hope their time on the show will inspire their child to reach for their dreams.
Ora was surprised that the celeb claimed they don’t “usually sing,” believing they had a strong voice and were “the frontrunner” of the episode. Their clue was avocado toast, with Queen Corgi coyly hinting at morning-related activities being important to them. Jeong’s mind immediately went to Amy Schumer, given that she’s a comedian. Ora kept the comedian train going, guessing they might be Ali Wong.
14 Karat Carrot
Last but not least was the show’s newest competitor and the second wild card of the season, 14 Karat Carrot, who took to the stage with their version of “Hold On, I’m Coming” by Sam & Dave. Based on their preroll footage, which included a brief overview of their early life, the detectives immediately believe they must be a “legend.”
McCarthy Wahlberg noted that all of the detectives looked “inquisitive and lost” after the performance, unsure of who the celeb might be. Their clue was revealed to be five golden carrots, with 14 Karat Carrot adding, “I made a few bad judgment calls when I was younger, but now I’m living the golden life.” Thicke initially believed they might be Reverend Al Green, but switched his answer to Otis Williams of The Temptations. Jeong faked everyone out by feigning emotion before guessing Morgan Freeman. Ora went in the same direction as Thicke, thinking they might be Verdine White of Earth, Wind and Fire.
Who was eliminated?
In a shocking moment, the show ended with Queen Corgi interrupting host Nick Cannon and announcing, before the results could be read, that they were “bowing out” of the competition by choice.
After they were unmasked, they were revealed to be comedian and podcaster Claudia Oshry of The Toast. She said that, while she had a wonderful time on the show, she has a new baby at home and wants to leave to spend more time with them.
When is the next episode?
The next episode of The Masked Singer airs on FOX on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m. ET, and we’ll be right back here to recap everything live for you!
