The Masked Singer returned tonight for another evening filled with music, chaos and plenty of unexpected unmaskings.

Entering its eighth week, the hit FOX singing competition has been on a roll this season, surprising the audience in attendance, the viewers at home and the panel of detectives—Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora—with multiple high-energy performances from the mysterious cast of masked singers. And this week will continue the trend, as the remaining contestants take on the music of a hard rock legend.

Another shocking unmasking

Last week’s episode saw just three contestants—Crane, Snowcone and Pugcasso—take to the stage to perform some of the Spice Girls’ greatest hits for the detective panel. The seventh episode also saw the return of Taraji P Henson, i.e., Scarab, who was eliminated earlier in the season. The actress joined the detective panel to help them close the cases on the remaining masked singers.

Following the first round of performances, Pugcasso was voted safe from elimination by the audience and judges. This meant Crane and Snowcone had to compete in a “Spice Royale,” performing a duet of “Stop” by the aforementioned girl group. After an energetic rendition from both celebs, Crane was crowned the winner, with the detectives electing to eliminate Snowcone from the competition. The frozen dessert was revealed to be Heidi Montag, who was joined onstage by her husband, Spencer Pratt, during her unmasking.

With her elimination from the competition, The Hills star joined David “Big Papa” Ortiz, The Chrisleys, Tiffany Haddish, Tone Loc, Claudia Oshry, Teddi Mellencamp, Billy Ray Cyrus and the aforementioned Henson as the Season 14 celebs unmasked thus far—with another set to join them tonight.

This week’s theme

For their first March episode, The Masked Singer celebrated the life and music of the “Godfather of Heavy Metal,” Ozzy Osborne. In addition, the show welcomed the Black Sabbath frontman’s daughter, Kelly Osborne, back to the detective panel. Osborne was previously a contestant, appearing as Ladybug on Season 2 back in 2019.

Tonight’s episode featured performances from four of the remaining masked singers—High Voltage, Galaxy Girl, Eggplant and Pangolin—showcasing one more celeb than last week. The contestants were tasked with tackling an array of rock tunes, including a few from Osborne’s extensive catalogue.

High Voltage

The electricity-themed masked singer was up first, singing their rendition of “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath. In their preroll footage, the mystery celeb noted that they understand Osborne on another level, as they also broke away from a group in their youth to go solo.

Both Jeong and Osborne applauded High Voltage’s commitment to their performance before the detectives received the mystery celeb’s bonus clue: the word “bandwagon.” Jeong guessed they might be Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day based on the clues, but was promptly booed by the audience. Meanwhile, Ora thought they might be John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls. Osborne went in a wholly different direction, believing they might be Tim Allen due to a couple of potential Toy Story references.

Galaxy Girl

The intergalactic sensation shared a little about their first concert and their love of music in their preroll footage, revealing that they’ve played “festivals” before. Galaxy Girl then took centerstage with a passionate performance of “Drive” by Incubus.

Ora complimented their vocals, calling them “sexy” and “fun.” Galaxy Girl’s bonus clue was the word “Halo,” with the mystery celeb noting they had “earned” a halo in their career. Osborne felt confident they were Ashley Simpson because of the tone of their voice. Meanwhile, McCarthy Wahlberg thought they might be Kate Hudson due to the clues in the preroll footage. Jeong, however, believed they were Gwen Stefani (for which he was booed again).

Eggplant

Eggplant’s chosen song was “One Step Closer” by Linkin Park, embracing the rock n' roll vibes of the evening. In preroll footage, the vibrant vegetable said they’d been everywhere, “from billboard to Broadway.” That was, before they dated a “famous rocker’s girlfriend,” which resulted in a confrontation with the musician.

Thicke joked that “Egglplant just turned into Robert Plant,” calling it their “best performance” yet. Their bonus clue was the words “classic guitar,” adding that they have a “guitar named after [them].” Thicke said they might be a famous guitarist rather than a famous lead singer, naming Slash as an example. However, McCarthy Wahlberg thought they were Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon. Jeong guessed Rick Springfield based on the “rocker’s girlfriend” hint, and Osborne had two possibilities: Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi or Alice Cooper.

Pangolin

The final solo performance of the evening came from Pangolin, who tackled Ozzy Osborne’s “Mama I’m Coming Home.” Their preroll footage pointed to a confidence journey for the masked singer, who noted they were living in a van “on the brink of giving up” right before fame set in.

Osborne thanked the mystery celeb for “doing the song justice” before the detectives were given the final bonus clue, which was the word “diamond.” McCarthy Wahlberg quickly guessed that they might be Christina Perri, who would be performing “double duty” on the show, since Perri performed earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Ora thought they might be Vanessa Carlton because of a potential “thousand” miles reference in the preroll footage clues. Thicke was on the same track as Ora, believing they might be Michelle Branch.

Who was eliminated?

After the final performance, the audience and the detectives panel were prompted to vote for who they wanted to save, securing spots on the show for Pangolin and Galaxy Girl. As a result, High Voltage and Eggplant had to compete in the “OzzFest Royale,” which required the two to sing a duet of “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath. Once the rock n’ roll duet was done, the detectives voted again to choose their official winner.

They selected High Voltage as the victor, eliminating Eggplant. Upon their unmasking, the vegetable-themed mystery singer was revealed to be actor Jack Wagner, best known for his roles on General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful and Melrose Place.

When is the next episode?

The next episode of The Masked Singer airs on FOX on Wednesday, March 11, at 8 p.m. ET, and we’ll be right back here to recap everything live for you!
