Simone Biles is changing the narrative surrounding plastic surgery, as the 11-time Olympian went into detail about the augmentations she received so far, including her breast enhancements.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Biles shared why she has “no shame” when it comes to being real about her body and the procedures she has had done. As a national champion, she’s often in the limelight, which is why she feels compelled to ensure that the example she’s setting is one others can connect to.

“It’s just who I am and I feel like I’ve always tried to be open, honest and relatable,” the 28-year-old expressed. She also added, “Seeing me win medals at the Olympics, that’s not relatable. But what is relatable is how we feel about ourselves, what we talk about, what we go through and how we share openly, honestly. And so that’s why I decided to share it.”

The gymnast initially took to her TikTok comment section to confirm that she got plastic surgery on her earlobe due to her earring being torn out when she was younger. She also confirmed work was done on her eyelids, as she inherited the heavy under-eye bags, which often run in her family

“I got a lower bleph because me and my family have, I call it the ‘Biles eye bags.’ We’ve just always had them, hereditary, and so that was just a big flaw. Every time I would go to a shoot, they’re like, 'Oh, can we put some strips on her?' And I was like, ‘Oh, baby, I had 12 hours last night, these aren’t going away. These are just hereditary.’ So it's something that I wanted to fix.”

As for her breast augmentations, this was neither because of a sustained injury nor because of a hereditary trait. Rather, it was because Biles desired to feel even more confident in the skin she’s in.

“Okay, obviously you can notice the breasts. But other than that, it’s just feeling good about yourself and loving yourself, and I’ve always been very vocal about that,” Biles candidly divulged. “And not that I didn’t like the way I looked or the way I felt. It's just something that I notice, obviously a little bit more, because I live in this body, I’m just so used to it.“

By sharing her journey and reasoning, Biles contributes to the dismantling of negative stigmas surrounding plastic surgery. Instead of augmentations being viewed as an indicator of low self-esteem or body image issues, these procedures can also be seen as a way for someone to further enhance all the beautiful attributes they already possess.

To Biles, it’s all about removing shame from the equation and replacing it with confidence and love.

“I also think it shows young girls that they have the right to their own choices, whatever they are, and that's no shame added as well,” she continued. In finishing her thoughts, she stated, “As long as you love yourself, that's really all that matters.”
