Yes, you read the headline correctly: after almost four years, Euphoria is officially back.

The mega-popular program first premiered on HBO back in June 2019 before returning for its sophomore season in January 2022. Fans of the program have been waiting ever since the second season’s finale aired in February of that same year to see what happened to their favorite characters, and today, Dec. 12, they finally got their first look.

This morning, HBO shared a sneak peek at what the third season will hold ahead of their 2026 slate, alongside a slew of new character photos posted on the show’s official Instagram page.

A sneak peek

As part of a larger trailer dropped documenting all of the newness HBO will be offering viewers in 2026, a short montage featuring brand-new scenes from the third season of Euphoria was sandwiched in.

The montage began with a nondescript car manically driving through the desert. It then cut to a collection of quick shots, featuing Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow) posing in a pink dress at what looked like a wedding, Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) doing her makeup while looking distressted, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) pumping his fist in front of a TV with his shirt unbuttoned, Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) dressed as a bunny and Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) in glittering eye makeup, looking up at someone unseen.

“A few years after high school, I don’t know if life was exactly what I wished,” Zendaya’s voice spoke over the montage as dramatic music played. The clip collection ended with a scene showing Zendaya’s character, Rue Bennett, walking into a dimly lit bar to meet up with a stranger.

What we know so far

While it’s been a long wait for this quick look, fans have gotten some other information on what to expect from the third season in the meantime. As reported by CNN earlier this month, showrunner Sam Levinson shared a look at the new season during an event in London, which revealed more about where the characters will be when we rejoin them—five years in the future, to be exact.

Per CNN, Levinson stated that Rue will still be dealing with the fallout of the money she owes from the second season, and will start the third season “south of the border in Mexico [...] trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off.” As far as the other characters go, Jules will be “in art school,” Lexi will be “an assistant to a show runner played by Sharon Stone” and Maddy will also be in Hollywood working “at a talent agency.”

Levinson also stated that: “Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate, they’re engaged and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time.”

Only time will tell how all of these storylines intersect, so be sure to check out the third season of Euphoria, which is currently slated to premiere on HBO in April 2026.
