Today is GivingTuesday, a global occasion that simply “encourages people to do good.” SI Swimsuit model Christen Harper is doing just that, by teaming up with Girls Inc. of Los Angeles, an organization that supports local girls through academic and leadership programming.

Harper has partnered with the organization to match up to $5,000 in donations made on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

“Girls Inc. is an incredible organization that supports girls in under-resourced communities across Los Angeles and helps give them all the tools that they need to succeed,” Harper stated. “I got to see this firsthand when I was a volunteer for Girls Inc. and I got to see girls come into the program and then just immediately blossom. They became more confident, they had better self-esteem, they were more excited to come to school and learn, all because of the work that Girls Inc. was doing.”

Donation funds will help the organization invest in programming designed to help girls ages 5 to 13 develop confidence while building their leadership skills. One-time and recurring donations can be made here in any amount.

A Southern California native, Harper is a longtime partner of Girls Inc. of Los Angeles, and she is proud to work with a nonprofit that helps to equip girls with important skills like navigating gender, economic and social barriers.

“So many young girls don’t have the opportunity to have a strong support system or a positive mentor in their lives,” she told SI Swimsuit last March. “Girls Inc. steps in to fill that role. I think it is so important to encourage and inspire girls to be confident and bold, to raise their hands, to speak up for what’s important.”
