Christina Aguilera has been a household name for nearly 25 years, but more than two decades in the spotlight has not left her jaded. The “Beautiful” singer recently opened up to People about the inevitable process of aging, which she says she tries to embrace.

In particular, she called a negative view of aging a “super old-school approach.”

“I’ve seen myself go through different stages of my life and complain about certain things,” she told the outlet. “As I’ve gotten older, I look back, and I’m like, ‘God, every stage is a new era.’ I'm really into feeling more self-assured as you get older. That’s the thing to truly embrace. It’s harmful when [aging] becomes an obsession.”

She noted that since she’s been in the public eye for so long, she’s used to being critiqued by the public. However, Aguilera shared that she tries to prioritize her art above the noise of other people’s thoughts about her looks.

While everyone has an opinion of beauty, the five-time Grammy Award-winner pointed out that the aging process is a personal and individual one.

“I also think that everybody has a different outlook with how they want to age,” she stated. “It’s a very personal conversation—what works for some people might not work for others.”

Aguilera is partnering with Xeomin, a prescription anti-wrinkle injectable medicine, for the brand's new “Beauty on Your Terms” campaign. She announced the partnership on Instagram on Thursday, citing that it helps maintain her skin regimen and manage frown lines while on tour.

“I’ve always been a pretty open book about embracing my body, my looks, and things like that,” the mom of two candidly told Allure.
