Alix Earle on Using Her Platform to Speak Up About, Embrace Acne
Alix Earle uses her platform for more than just fashion inspo, beauty tips and influential lifestyle content. The University of Miami graduate, who became an almost overnight TikTok sensation last year, has grown her platform to more than 6.4 million followers to date.
She candidly speaks about her breast augmentation experience and is always open about her journey with acne and Accutane medication.
“I wish I had someone, in terms of acne, to look up to when I was younger and dealing with acne. The fact that I can be that for someone else is amazing. It makes me feel honored that I have a platform to be able to help other people and speak openly about such a prevalent topic,” the 23-year-old told InStyle. “A lot of acne products have always irritated my skin, and it’s been better for me to just keep it simple. I’ve been trying to stick to a routine and not really switch it up, just because it obviously still takes a minute for your routine to even kick in. So I’ve learned that it’s better just to stick to it, and you’ll be able to see more progress that way.”
The New Jersey native was also just named the first global face of Hero Cosmetics. She is a huge fan of the brand’s for best-selling pimple patches that can flatten stubborn spots overnight.
Earle, who is dating Miami Dolphins wide receiver Braxton Berrios, also opened up to the publication about dating with acne, and how she has done her best to normalize skin blemishes and scarring through her platform.
“Dating with acne can be so scary. There were times when I truly was doing everything and anything I could to try and hide it. It’s always worse in your own head, so address it if it makes you feel better. But at the end of the day, no one cares as much as you do about it,” she shared. “I think it all goes back to helping other people that are dealing with those negative thoughts about their skin and letting them know that they’re not alone. [Posting about acne] has helped with the way I feel about my skin when I am breaking out. It’s made me realize how normal it is and how many people struggle with acne.”
