Hailee Steinfeld Elevates Preppy Dressing in Striped Set for ‘Sinners’ Screening

Keep the poka dots—Hailee Steinfeld shows why stripes are the go-to patterns for this soon-coming fall season. The actress served a masterclass in fashion with her latest public event ensemble.
For a SAG-AFTRA Screening & Conversation event in New York City, which spotlighted her 2025 film Sinners, Steinfeld wowed in a striped two-piece set. This look is an imitation of the typical polo dress design, only it’s longer, more form-fitting and includes a dramatic slit going all the way up to her thigh.
Hailee Steinfeld’s latest fashion moment
The top includes a long-sleeved rugby shirt, delivering a polished look. As for her bottom, a floor-length tube skirt was the perfect item to complete the look.
Steinfeld’s hair was as mesmerizing as always, and the same could be said for her glowy makeup look, which includes a tinted glossy balm and rosy cheeks.
Fans of Sinners would be pleased to know that the hype surrounding the film isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, Warner Bros. is reportedly making a push for the Ryan Coogler film, along with Weapons, to be considered for recognition at the Academy Awards.
Sinners has sparked a conversation of race, love, loss, music, connection, generational trauma and more. For Steinfeld, she embraced all of these themes, but, specifically, was thankful for the way the film allowed her to step out of her comfort zone with her character, Mary.
What Sinners means to Steinfeld
“With Mary, I was so struck by the first words that come out of her mouth, and the level of strength and confidence, but vulnerability and loss and grief that comes behind all of those lines,“ Steinfeld shared with Variety. “There wasn’t a single one that was written that I didn’t feel clear on with the intentions. It was all there. And while Ryan [Coogler] made it very easy, it didn’t stop there. The writing, the conversations, the discoveries about these characters continued as we were making this movie.”
She continued, “This role is so powerful and has moved me personally so much; Mary has pushed me out of my comfort zone.”
Another big conversation Sinners started is one regarding identity. The 28-year-old actress, who married Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in June, is grateful for the way the project brought her closer to her ancestry.
“Part of my research, I guess you could say, for the role of Mary, was looking inward and into my own family history—my grandfather was half-Black—and getting a better understanding of what his life might have looked like,” Steinfeld shared. “While we’ve talked about it before, I never dove this deep into it as I did for this, and I don’t know that I could have at any other point in my life. At any sooner point, I don’t walk away with what I have now.”
We’re so excited to see Sinners continue to receive the recognition it deserves, especially if it means more fabulous fashion from Steinfeld in the process.
Sinners is streaming on HBO Max.
