Keke Palmer Channels Full Y2K Vibes in Tube Top and Micro Mini Skirt for Album Celebration

Keke Palmer’s latest look was a blast from the past, as the superstar brought back a fashion combo that definitely deserves revisiting.
The actress and singer posted a photo drop on Instagram consisting of snapshots from earlier this week when she celebrated her new album at Hotwater Cornbread in Los Angeles. Her outfit consisted of a patterned tube top with a dramatic split going right down the middle. She complemented this classic piece with a dark taupe micro mini skirt and a transparent chain necklace adorned with a silver circle pendant for the perfect Y2K moment.
A few bracelets, some hoop earrings and a pair of sparkly open-toed heels made for some seriously cute accessories to spruce up this already adorable outfit. But as usual, this red-hot era for Palmer’s hair was the true show-stopper, with her loose waves making the entire ensemble look easy, breezy and beautiful.
The 31-year-old gave a live performance of songs off Just Keke at the event, much to the delight of the audience. As an artist who has been in the spotlight for years now, performing and perfecting her craft are two things that Palmer never wants to stop working on, even though she’s noted that it can be a struggle at times.
“I have done so much work to make sure that I’m giving my audience my very best, and I’ve also had a hard time being a performer at such a young age and protecting myself through performance,” Palmer recently shared with Billboard. “It’s been so hard to manage being a person and being a product.”
The actress has also run into some difficulty in trying to ensure that she gets to tell her own story with her own words. After the fallout with her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson, Palmer felt she had lost control of her own narrative for a while.
“For someone to weaponize your audience against you, it was very heartbreaking. My life isn’t a joke. There’s a lot of s--t I joke about, but I don’t joke about my life. I don’t want to confuse [people and have them] think that this is what we do over here,” Palmer added. “Let’s not joke about families falling apart. That’s not funny to me.”
But Palmer also noted that, once she hits the stage, her anxieties fade, as she believes her audience understands and resonates with her perspective. Because of this, she hopes to continue to grow in her artistry.
“I was tapped into life experiences that bring you to a deeper truth; it’s a lot of me growing up,” Palmer said. “Because the lyrics are so true to me, I was able to sing them like I would [speak] them. That’s why I think [this album] has my best vocal performances. There’s now a different level of depth that I’m carrying after I evolved as a person.”
