Maddy Westbeld is keeping things neutral and looking incredible while doing it. The Chicago Sky forward has been embracing her groufit era, serving two chic gray monochrome outfits in back-to-back games that prove she can make even the most understated palette feel fresh and bold.
On July 24, ahead of the team’s game against the Seattle Storm, the 23-year-old leaned into her signature corpcore aesthetic with a summery twist. The athlete wore dark gray tailored wide-leg trousers paired with a matching square-neck cropped tank, giving the structured look an ab-baring edge. The 23-year-old accessorized with crisp white pointed-toe heels and a sleek black belt to break up the monochrome moment, finishing the outfit with her natural curls. Minimal, refined and easy to recreate—it was quintessential Westbeld.
Just three days later, on July 27, the Ohio native switched things up for the Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever. This time, she went for something softer yet equally commanding: an oversized, slouchy knit gray cardigan draped over a fitted gray tailored mini skirt. The look showed off her muscular legs, which translate to sheer power on the hardwood. Knee-length cable knit socks tucked into white heels added a cozy-meets-polished touch, while silver hoops and a delicate chain completed the look.
“lil bts,” she captioned an Instagram carousel showing off bits and pieces of her week.
Westbeld’s style consistently strikes the balance between simplicity and statement. “I try to not do too much [while] still getting a good message across,” she told SI Swimsuit of her approach to fashion. Her monochrome outfits embody that philosophy perfectly—clean lines, thoughtful details and a confidence that speaks louder than any trend.
For Westbeld, these tunnel fits are more than just clothes. They’re part of the broader movement reshaping how fans see the league. “You can say we are walking billboards and many powerful women are the hot commodity right now,” she added. “The W is the perfect hub.”
Her stylist, Desiree Olavarrieta, echoed this sentiment, calling the rise of WNBA fashion “long overdue.” Together, the two have curated looks that blend Westbeld’s athletic edge with high-fashion vibes. “The tunnel has become a real platform for self-expression, storytelling and honestly, brand building,” Olavarrieta explained.
With each appearance, Westbeld continues to prove that even in head-to-toe gray, her style is anything but muted. The former Notre Dame standout, now sharing the league spotlight with her sister Kathryn of the Phoenix Mercury, is making her rookie season one to watch.
