Workout and wellness leader Melissa Wood-Tepperberg took to Instagram earlier today to open up about her skin struggles. The 42-year-old MWH founder shared that she has suffered from acne most of her life, which “depleted [her] confidence.”

Wood-Tepperberg added that despite trying topical treatments, nothing seemed to work, and she didn’t see any major change until she “decided to stop everything and go within.”

“I spent 10+ years searching outside of myself for every expert to help me until I realized I could help myself,” she wrote. “This is when I started meditating. I started to learn how to calm my nervous system down and slowly but surely equally learn to love and accept myself and my skin as it was. It changed me.”

Part of her process also involved reducing high-inflammation foods from her diet and making the change to non-toxic skincare products. The 2023 SI Swimsuit rookie also credited skincare specialist Joie Tavernise with helping her turn things around.

“She was the first esthetician that made me feel good about my skin,” Wood-Tepperberg said of Tavernise. “She didn’t shame me or tell me how bad it was. She told me how beautiful my skin was and that we together would help clear it up. And we did. I’ve stayed very consistent with my facials for years and stopped picking my face. This is so important.”

The certified yoga and Pilates instructor concluded her post with an important reminder for fellow acne sufferers: “Drink lots of water, be mindful how you speak to yourself when you look in the mirror and remember that acne is normal and it’s just trying to tell you your system is out of balance. 🙏🏼,” she said.
