Designing the new on- and off-court gear provided the athlete the chance to reflect on her professional career and what’s to come.

In August of 2022, professional basketball star Skylar Diggins-Smith released her first collection in conjunction with PUMA Hoops, the specifically basketball-geared branch of the athletic clothing company PUMA. The first collection, aptly termed “Desert Sky” in honor of the Phoenix Mercury guard, featured bright orange hues and vintage-inspired PUMA designs.

Now, according to a PUMA Hoops Instagram post on Sept. 20, the WNBA star will be releasing a second collection with the iconic brand. The new collection, coined “Reflections,” is “about being present and looking to the future – while never losing sight of yourself,” according to the announcement on the PUMA website.

The gear will feature “hieroglyphics-inspired details infused with the spirit of Diggins-Smith’s personal mantra, ‘Don’t Play Yourself’,” the announcement read.

The entire collection will revolve around a pair of white sneakers, the TRC Blaze court. Marketed as “where on-court performance will meet off-court fashion” by the company, the sneakers will be fit for professional play and streetwear alike. They are the very shoes that Diggins-Smith sports in the iconic photo that PUMA Hoops shared to announce the new collaboration. Other items in the collection will include a bodysuit, a hoodie, a pair of shorts, and graphic tees.

But the collection is about much more than fashion-forward on-court gear. For Diggins-Smith, it’s personal. “Through ‘Reflections,’ I’ve had the opportunity to look back on the 10 years I’ve been in the WNBA - from getting drafted in 2013, to designing my second collection while pregnant with my daughter,” she explained. “I’m proud of this collection and love that PUMA allows me to showcase my abilities as a designer and creative. Whether you play sports or not, the pieces in ‘Reflections’ are designed to make you feel comfortable and empowered.”
