Reneé Rapp Serves Major Pop Star Energy for ‘Late Show’ Performance

Reneé Rapp was anything but “Shy” when she took to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert stage on Thursday night.
The 25-year-old pop star, whose second album BITE ME was released today, gave fans a sneak peek into her new discography with a performance of “Shy.” Following an introduction from host Stephen Colbert, the camera panned to the singer and actress—best known for her roles in the musical remake of Mean Girls and The Sex Lives of College Girls—as she sat down for the song’s first lyrics.
Wearing loose light-washed denim jeans, a classic white top and a frilly black shawl, Rapp was effortlessly stylish. She completed her ensemble with heeled black booties and kept her blonde hair in loose waves.
“this is totally giving 2000’s girly pop movie playlist,” a commenter wrote.
“She’s so beyond this earth I'm obsessed,” another user penned.
“so perfect i need bite me tour NOW,” one fan declared.
“This album I feel so deeply!!! I am glad we waited this long!!!!!” A fellow fan added.
It’s been nearly two years since the artist’s debut album Snow Angel dropped in August of 2023, and her sophomore portfolio is a culmination of her growth since then. “It really feels just like a time capsule of those two years of my life, a lot having to do with the business and the industry and people’s expectations of me,” Rapp told the Associated Press.
Calling the album a “time capsule” of the “good, bad and the ugly” on Instagram, the artist beamed over her newest feat. “I’ve never been so proud of myself,” she continued in her post from Thursday. “I listen to it and cry because I know I made what I wanted to.”
But curating the album didn’t come easily, she disclosed. Vulnerably, Rapp tried her best to manage her conflicting emotions while bringing her sophomore project to life.
“The whole time making this [album], I felt equal parts confident and equal parts embarrassed. I wanted to be brutally honest, but I didn’t want to be judged too hard,” the artist continued. “I wanted to poke fun, but I also wanted to be taken seriously. Sometimes, I think I’m a walking contradiction, but regardless, I’m going to talk my s**t.”
Listen to BITE ME on streaming platforms today, before Rapp tours the album with Syd and Ravyn Lanae in the U.S. from Sept. 23 to Oct. 29. Afterwards, Rapp will head to Antwerp, Belgium, to kick off the tour’s European leg with Absolutely on March 11.
