The 15 Best Dressed at the 2023 Oscars: Jessica Chastain, Cara Delevingne and More

A-list celebrities looked fabulous and strutted down a champagne carpet at the March 12 event in Los Angeles.

The Academy Awards might be all about the global film industry, but the exciting first few hours of red carpet arrivals are dedicated to fashion and is its own televised affair for a reason.

The 2023 Oscars were a historic night to remember. Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian American woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Rihanna (and her baby) performed at the event for the first time. “Naatu Naatu” became the first track from an Indian film to be nominated for—and win—an Oscar for Best Original Song. And for the first time ever, the red carpet turned champagne-colored.

A-list celebrities showed up and showed out. This year’s common themes included mesh, trains and figure-hugging silhouettes. Here’s a recap of some of our favorite Oscars gowns—and a few after-party looks that were just too good not to include.

Rihanna

The singer arrived fashionably late to the champagne carpet in a gorgeous leather and mesh mixed-materials gown from Alaïa. The soon-to-be mom of two showed off her growing baby bump and delivered her first Oscars performance in another equally-impressive outfit.

Michelle Yeoh

The Everything Everywhere All At Once actress, who made history on March 12, wore a gorgeous feathery Dior haute couture gown. She looked like an absolute angel as she delivered a heartwarming acceptance speech and celebrated with her costars.

Jessica Chastain

The 45-year-old Oscar winner has been to the Academy Awards many times and never fails to amaze. Chastain wore a gorgeous bedazzled Gucci gown with a short black velvet train.

Florence Pugh

Post-event, the Don’t Worry Darling star dazzled in a unique ab-baring bra and pant set. She added a floor-length oversized baby pink trench coat on top.

Ashley Graham

The supermodel, who hosted ABC’s Oscars pre-show, wore a gorgeous and sexy Alberta Ferretti black gown featuring a fishnet skirt and flowy sleeves.

Angela Bassett

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star looked like royalty in a gorgeous, bright Moschino gown featuring chiffon trailing and dramatic puffy short sleeves.

Halle Berry

The Catwoman actress stunned in a Tamara Ralph gown featuring a halter neckline, thigh-high slit and rose detailing all over. She paired the dress with gold platform heels and Pomellato jewelry.

Cara Delevingne

The recent Vogue cover star wore a ruby red Elie Saab original gown and stood out from the crowd.

Ariana DeBose

The West Side Story star wore a custom Versace gown featuring a plunging neckline, thigh-high slit and a trailing mesh fabric. In an IG post of the look, DeBose said the outfit made her feel entirely herself: “empowered, feminine and fabulous.”

Mindy Kaling

The Never Have I Ever producer donned a gorgeous ab-bearing white Vera Wang haute couture gown and opera gloves. She paired the look with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.

Ana de Armas

The Blonde star wore a custom Louis Vuitton gown with mostly a figure-hugging silhouette, except for the lower half, which featured a scalloped design. The gorgeous beaded dress took more than 1,000 hours to create.

Naomi Campbell

Campbell reminded fans of her supermodel status with a stunning figure-hugging gown straight off the runway from Daniel Roseberry’s spring-summer 2023 haute couture collection for Schiaparelli. The cream dress hugged her perfectly and included floral metallic hardware panels over her chest as well as a shiny tasseled skirt.

Janelle Monáe

The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star let her personality shine in a gorgeous satin black-and-orange color-blocked number from Vera Wang. The top featured a plunging neckline and the skirt fell asymmetrically around her hips.

Monica Barbaro

The Top Gun: Maverick star wore a stunning off-the-shoulder Disney princess-inspired gown to Vanity Fair’s after-party and she looked incredible.

Winnie Harlow

The Cay Skin founder opted to stand out in a beautiful figure-hugging yellow gown from Armani.
