Yumi Nu fulfilled a childhood dream last April when she became Vogue Japan’s cover model. As a second-generation woman of Japanese and Dutch descent, it was an occasion to celebrate.

“Japanese culture values being skinny, dainty and small,” the musician explained. “So for me to be on the cover of Vogue Japan meant being seen and being honored by a culture that often makes people with bigger bodies like mine feel invisible.”

Nu has been on vacation in Japan for the past few days and has kept her followers updated with content from her trip. She’s been listening to music, visiting family, eating delicious food and, of course, slaying her outfits.

Nu shared a look of her cool street style on Feb. 1. The 26-year-old wore a graphic T-shirt with a sheer white long sleeve on top, paired with black cargo pants and chunky boots. The Blueki founder accessorized with red sunglasses, earmuffs and a long cream puffer coat. Nu’s hair was split into two neat braids and she opted for rather natural glam featuring a touch of blush and nude lipstick.

She shared another snap, a mirror selfie, just a few days earlier. Nu wore a funky purple netted mock-neck top with a white bandeau underneath and topped the look off with dangly earrings and black sunglasses. For glam, she chose a pink lip gloss, a dash of highlighter and winged eyeliner.

“nihon 🍦🍥 ´・ᴗ・`,” she captioned the post with the Japanese word for Japan.

Nu was featured by Vogue last month as part of a Lunar New Year shoot with photographer Theo Liu.

“We’re ringing in the #LunarNewYear (and the year of the rabbit!) with fun festive fashion for the year ahead,” the magazine wrote on IG. “Following the Chinese New Year tradition of wearing red, model @_yumi_nu wears a one shoulder red dress as she cuddles up to a new friend. Tap the link in our bio to celebrate 2023 with exciting silhouettes and lots of eye-catching jewelry.”

“Was such an honor to be a part of this special shoot in @voguemagazine celebrating Cai Guo-Qiang’s incredible work 🧨❤️‍🔥,” Nu captioned her post of the spread and tagged fashion editor and stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. “Thank you for giving @blueki it’s first opportunity to be in Vogue ~ being able to wear a BLUEKI dress in a Vogue shoot was a dream come true 🥹🥹🥹 ~ thankfulness forever !!!!”

Nu founded Blueki last year with the goal of creating a sustainable and ethically sourced line of fresh and trending pieces for women of all sizes.
