Chappell Roan Just Gave Fans the Most Disappointing Update on Her Next Album

Masterpieces take time, and that sentiment applies to Chappell Roan’s music, as the pop sensation confirmed her next album won’t be out as soon as fans had hoped.
The 27-year-old discussed life and career updates—including divulging what headspace she’s currently in regarding her artistry—with Vogue. During the conversation, she revealed that she takes her work very seriously, especially since she’s pouring her heart out on her records. Due to this, Roan’s future projects, including her next album, will take time.
“The second project doesn’t exist yet. There is no album. There is no collection of songs,” Roan told the outlet. “It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out."
She then added, “I don’t think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything. I see some comments sometimes, like, ‘She’s everywhere except that damn studio.’ Even if I was in the studio 12 hours a day, every single day, that does not mean that you would get an album any faster.”
Roan’s debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, has garnered over 1.5 billion streams on Spotify and millions more across other streaming platforms. But the numbers weren’t the only thing that spoke to the adoration many had for this project, as the endless awards she earned also symbolized the critical acclaim she acquired.
For the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, the “Casual” singer was nominated in six categories, including the Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year. In the end, she took home the Best New Artist award. Still, the fact that her first project was nominated alongside albums created by juggernauts like Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish showed that Roan remains a force to be reckoned with.
A future where Roan’s second studio album exists will arrive soon enough. Until then, she’s taking in the sights and sounds of New York, enjoying the highs and lows that come with living in the Big Apple.
“I have to see what New York is like in my 20s, ’cause it’s what everyone says. New York is doing exactly what it does to me, which is kicking my a**,” she expressed. “This pace is good right now. This feels good and manageable. I feel like, for the first time in over a year, I can finally be excited about going to work and doing my job.”
