Aly Raisman is a veritable star in the gym, having won several individual Olympic gold medals and a handful of gold medals at the gymnastics World Championships as well. But in 2017, the former professional gymnast proved she could really do it all, posing in Houston for her debut SI Swimsuit photoshoot with photographer James Macari.
“I felt like a little kid in a candy store just trying on all these incredible swimsuits,” Raisman joked about picking out her metallic suits on set.
Though she hasn’t always felt comfortable in her own skin, the retired athlete really learned to love her body during her professional career.
“As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that being strong and being muscular is what makes me one of the best gymnasts in the world. So it’s definitely something I’ve learned to love about myself,” she said. “It’s really incredible to feel so confident and so comfortable because it’s something that a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have been able to do.”
Her confidence certainly shines through on the set of her 2017 photoshoot, posing in a handful of stunning leotard-inspired looks.
