Abby Dahlkemper’s Return to the USWNT Is Just Getting Started, and We Love What We’re Seeing

Last weekend, she played in her first game with the team in 599 days.

Abby Dahlkemper.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Abby Dahlkemper is in her comeback era. Following a season-ending back injury in the fall of 2022, the professional athlete made her triumphant return to the NWSL and her squad, San Diego Wave FC, this August.

But she didn’t make an immediate return to the USWNT roster. However, after her club season came to a heartbreaking end in the playoffs, the defender was named to the December International Friendlies roster. Dahlkemper, who made her FIFA World Cup debut in 2019, returned to the USWNT pitch for the first time in 599 days on Dec. 2, resuming her defensive position for the match against China.

Beforehand, she attended seasonal camp alongside a few other returning faces and several fresh ones. And the series of photos that she just shared from the multi-day practice prove what we already knew: Dahlkemper is back and better than ever.

“Pics from ⛺️!” she captioned the Instagram carousel. The series included several powerful snaps of Dahlkemper running downfield with the ball at her feet as well as a few sweet photos of the team members goofing around together.

“Woohoo. The back line is strong!!!” a follower commented.

“The best,” another added.

“you look great back on uniform!!” one fan gushed.

It seems the consensus is that the 30-year-old looks best in a USWNT kit. We can’t wait to see where the seasoned player takes the team in the coming months.
