Alex Cooper opens up about nearly everything on her top-ranked podcast Call Her Daddy. From childhood memories and vacation stories to deep dives into her sex life and previous relationships, almost nothing is off the table. And what’s more impressive is that she gets A-list celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Hailey Bieber, Emma Chamberlain, Emily Ratajkowski and more—some who rarely open up about their personal lives—to share the same intimate and vulnerable details. This year alone, she has interviewed Cole Sprouse, Reneé Rapp, John Legend and Madison Beer.

One thing Cooper has kept to herself, until April 24 at least, is her relationship with Matt Kaplan. Her fan base, the Daddy Gang, previously knew him only as “sexy Zoom man,” as the two met on a video call in 2020.

She shared an adorable photo of the moment he got down on one knee and popped the question—a major hard launch.

“I bet no one had this on their 2023 bingo card lol 💍,” she cleverly captioned the post she shared with her 2.3 million Instagram followers.

Kaplan, CEO of Ace Entertainment, set up a scavenger hunt that led to a sweet and intimate backyard proposal with a floral arch and tons of candles. Cooper wore her signature Call Her Daddy merch: a comfy sweat set that read “Unwell University.” He kept her out of the house for the day with the help of W magazine and set up a fake interview and photo shoot.

The 28-year-old podcast host told the magazine that she doesn’t know if her partner will ever be a featured guest on a full-length interview episode. The To All The Boys series producer is a “private” person but he cares about the podcast and Cooper’s fans deeply.

She does admit that her mind could change, however. Cooper thought she would never want to get married or post about her significant other and now she’s doing both.

“This is a perfect example of the evolution of my maturity in this industry. I’m itching to tell the Daddy Gang, because they’re everything to me,” she explained. “[Matt and I] have this insane chemistry. He’s also so supportive of my career. A lot of men in my past were really intimidated by my success. They tried to suppress what I was doing or make me feel bad about it. Matt has always been my biggest supporter. It’s very attractive to have a man not be intimidated by a woman’s extreme success.”

Cooper stated that she has been scared to share things with her fans in the past because of bad previous experiences. She’s at a good place of balance now of “having enough respect for my personal relationship to keep some things sacred.”

She adds that the podcast is partially to thank for her growth in relationships.

“Nothing has ever looked perfect on Call Her Daddy, and I think that’s why the show has been successful: It’s so raw and authentic,” she said. “It feels like I’ve built this big friend group across the world, and we’ve become so intimate in the way that we express our emotions. I’m so happy that we’ve normalized being vulnerable, and I’ve taken that into my relationship with Matt.”
