Ariana Grande doesn’t frequently post on social media, and when she does it’s rarely a chatty video. The singer opened up on TikTok about the public’s recent comments on her body and size and asked fans to refrain from commenting on anyone’s appearance.

“I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body, and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to,” she began the video. “I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what.”

The grammy award winner added that there are ways to compliment people that are unrelated to appearance. She encouraged followers to live by the classic “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” message.

“We should help each other work aim towards being safer, and keeping each other safer,” the “Dangerous Woman” singer continued. “There are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy.”

The R.E.M beauty founder was candid about her own body struggles in the past and how the public’s version of her best was in fact the “lowest point” and “unhealthiest version” of her body.

“I know I shouldn’t have to explain that, but I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here—something good might come from it,” she continued.

The upcoming Wicked star added that it’s a good idea in general to refrain from commenting on people’s bodies because you don’t know what they are going through.

“Even if you are coming from a loving place and a caring place, that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with and you never know,” she explained. “So be gentle with each other and with yourselves.”
