If recent years have taught us anything, it is that prioritizing movement is of the utmost importance, no matter where you are. Model Christen Harper couldn’t agree more. Though she travels a lot during the year both for her work and to spend time with her fiancé, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, she makes sure that time in a new city involves a lot of walking.

In fact, for the California native, walking around a new city is one of the best ways to explore and get your bearings. Prioritizing movement in a new city is one of her favorite things to do when traveling, Harper tells us during Miami Swim Week.

When she first landed in Miami the day before the runway show, “the first thing I did was walk to a shop to get a smoothie,” she says. “Just getting out and getting your feet on the ground and walking is my favorite thing to do, favorite way to explore.

But more than just being a good way of getting to know an unfamiliar place, walking around also serves to “keep that kind of routine I have at home,” she says. “Movement is just so important for my mental health.”

So, whether she is shoes to the ground exploring or taking a quick exercise class, she makes sure that every trip she goes on involves a lot of movement.

Movement aside, traveling in itself is also a breath of fresh air for the model. “A change of scenery is just so good for my mental health,” she explains. “Traveling and getting out and seeing different things, is totally, totally helpful.”
