Hilary Duff is kicking off her comeback.
The moment we‘ve all been waiting for
The actress and singer broke the internet today, announcing on Instagram that her brand-new single, “Mature,” drops Nov. 6. The track will mark her first original release in nearly a decade.
“So happy this is finally yours to hear. Been keeping this one quiet too long,” the mom of four captioned the post, adding a trio of fitting emojis: “🍸🪩🍒.”
The reveal came with a moody, cinematic photo that instantly sent longtime fans into meltdown. The trio of blurred black-and-white portraits showed the 38-year-old staring off into the distance with that unmistakable Duff smolder. Her blonde locks were tousled into effortless waves and her glam was soft and glowy. Neon-pink text reading “mature” was visible on one side.

A decade in the making
Duff’s last studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., dropped in 2015—so this comeback has been a long time coming. In the years since, she’s conquered television (Younger, How I Met Your Father), executive-produced projects, launched collaborations and continued raising her growing family with musician Matthew Koma. Still, fans never stopped asking about new music, and Duff, best known for her early 2000s roles in TV series Lizzie McGuire and film A Cinderella Story, kept teasing that she had something up her sleeve.
Earlier this fall, she hinted in an interview with Variety that new songs were coming “really soon.” Turns out, she wasn’t kidding. “Mature” is expected to blend the breezy nostalgia of her early pop hits with the storytelling of the woman she’s become, a natural evolution for someone who’s literally grown up in front of her fans.
What’s next
While details on a larger project haven’t been confirmed, fans are already speculating that “Mature” could signal a full album or EP.
“I always knew I was going to return to music. I needed to feel safe and I needed to have the right people in my corner and be absolutely 100% ready. Honestly, I needed to have 10 years of life under my belt. I needed a lot to say,” Duff explained. “This album feels like the inner workings of my brain and I really am so excited to connect with people again on that level, that very forward-facing level.”
