You may know Mady Dewey as the winner of last year’s Swim Search open casting call. The tech professional returns to the magazine for her rookie year with the publication of next week’s 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

Dewey traveled to Puerto Rico for her photo shoot with photographer Ben Watts, whom she called “a dream” to work with. She also noted that she can’t properly put into words what it means to her to be a rookie this year.

“It’s an honor,” she said. “I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am for the chance to even do this once, let alone now to get to come back and be a rookie and just to have the opportunity to try something new, try something outside of what I do day in and day out has been such a joy.”

Dewey, who has only modeled for SI Swimsuit, is an entrepreneur and content creator. She’s the cofounder and CEO of Herd, a metric-free social media app, and works as a project manager at Discord. She hopes to inspire others through her work with SI Swimsuit and wants to represent fellow women who don’t fit into just one box.

“One of the biggest reasons why I did this was because I felt like [as] someone who works in a tech environment, I didn’t see people that were going after their creative dreams … I want women to see that they can do everything that they want,” she explained.
