Jennifer Coolidge is back with another award for her performance as Tanya McQuoid in Season 2 of The White Lotus. Her latest acceptance speech is just as funny and sweet as it was at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globes earlier this year. The actress also won an Emmy Award last September.
The 61-year-old is truly on a roll—she won a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series on Sunday.
“It’s been a very special year and it’s overwhelming—White Lotus and [director] Mike White writing me this great part that went on for two seasons, and just HBO giving me the thumbs up to let me do it,” she said as she began to tear up. “I want you all to know that I am just so grateful because this could be it.”
The audience erupted in claps and cheers for the Legally Blonde actress.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Coolidge revealed that the HBO show role was written specifically for her after she and White traveled to Tanzania together and he saw her “unedited” self.
“You can give money to friends and do nice things for them—and people love money—but the best gift you can give is to change someone’s perspective for the better and that’s what Mike White did for me,” Coolidge continued in her speech.
The actress got emotional when she spoke about her parents—specifically her dad, who convinced her to play hooky in first grade and took her to a Charlie Chaplin exhibit. Coolidge noted that the experience with her father sparked her love of film.
The A Cinderella Story actress wore a black figure-hugging gown featuring a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves to the Los Angeles event. She paired the YSL dress with a velvet headband, dangly diamond earrings and a sparkly black clutch.
Coolidge also gave a sweet and raunchy shoutout to her date for the evening.
“My beautiful date, my wonderful date—Tim Bagley is my date tonight,” she said, wrapping up her speech. “He’s my best bud for like 20 years. Thank you... I can’t wait til we get home.”
