Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens recently appeared on an episode of The Pivot Podcast, and the 28-year-old detailed exactly how he met his wife, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.

While many fans know that the two connected on dating app Raya in 2020, Owens divulged other specifics regarding their courtship on the episode. When Owens was single and playing for the Houston Texans, a friend suggested he join the private social network and he decided to give it a go.

“Literally, I’d been on the app for a couple days and she [Biles] pops up and I’m like, ‘Let me see who this is. Gymnastics? I ain’t never... you know, I never really paid attention to gymnastics so it piqued my curiosity, you know?”

After the two matched, Biles, 26, liked several of Owens’s Instagram photos and shortly thereafter, sent a message to the NFL star on the app. Owens admitted that though he didn’t know who Biles was at the time, she had a lot of followers, so he assumed she was a major deal.

“She messaged me, this was like a Tuesday, and we were texting back and forth and then we hung out Friday,” he added. “... Then the rest is history, man.”

Biles and Owens got engaged in February of 2022 and tied the knot this spring in two different ceremonies—one set of courthouse nuptials in April and a destination wedding with friends and family in Mexico the following month.
