TV host Kamie Crawford is constantly using her platform to advocate for diversity and inclusivity in the fashion and modeling industries. She also encourages women to be their best selves and never settle for less.

The two-time SI Swimsuit model is also the host of the Relationsh*t with Kamie Crawford podcast, where she brings guests on to discuss the ins and outs of dating, while also talking about setting healthy boundaries and sharing relationship advice.

The 31-year-old was just featured in Waymaker Journal’s Black History Month issue, and she looked absolutely stunning in a glittery white gown, a stunning animal-print leather coat and a powerful purple blazer suit. But, more importantly, the Maryland native shared some of her best dating and relationship advice.

Crawford’s four best tips for a healthy relationship are as follows:

Don’t be afraid to shoot your shot

“It’s O.K. to flirt a little bit and get to know somebody even if you aren’t interested in pursuing a romantic relationship,” she said. “It’s all practice. It’s all for the plot … so just explore, have fun. Just enjoy getting to know people, period.”

Communicate

Learn to argue, and stand your ground, but also make it a priority to hear your significant other out, and try to understand their perspective.

“[Ask yourself] What are you trying to achieve? Because if you’re trying to hurt the other person, that’s achievable,” Crawford explained. “But if you want for your relationship to be right, and if you want for the other person to really understand where you’re coming from, there’s a way to communicate.”

Give compliments

“[Women] generally receive compliments all the time. Gas up [your partner, too],” she advised. “Compliment not just for the physical things, but for the things that they do for you that you appreciate—it’s good to acknowledge those things.”

Mix things up

Crawford knows that long-term relationships can sometimes hit a dull point, and the honeymoon phase certainly doesn’t last forever. “Some nice things need to be sprinkled throughout,” she said, encouraging listeners to occasionally surprise their partner in order to keep things spicy.
