While many fans know Mindy Kaling for her roles on The Office and The Mindy Project, the 44-year-old actress is also a screenwriter, producer and working mom of two.

Kaling recently chatted with WSJ. Magazine about both her career and motherhood, where she noted that the latter is “rewarding” but also occasionally causes moments of “panic.”

“It’s really rewarding, being a mom and spending time with these two people who look like me,” Kaling, who is mother to 6-year-old daughter Kit and 3-year-old son Spencer, told the outlet.

While the Never Have I Ever creator is often very protective of sharing glimpses into her life with her children, she occasionally provides snippets of her kiddos on Instagram, doing everything from building sandcastles to enjoying family trips to Disney theme parks together.

“In terms of my career, I’m a single mom. I’m the breadwinner in the house,” Kaling added. “So there’s a lot of panic that comes with that, the buck stops with me, I have to earn money for them. Having kids is everything—wanting to be a good role model and wanting to produce content that doesn’t embarrass them and makes them proud is another layer to my life and a complication that I welcome.”

It’s clear that motherhood is one of Kaling’s proudest roles these days. To celebrate Kit’s 6th birthday last December, she wrote on Instagram of her daughter: “I remember when you were a newborn and I took you home from Cedars and you looked at me like ‘does this lady even know what she’s doing?’ And I didn’t! But now you’re 6 and every single day you bring me so much joy.”
