Reese Witherspoon has given her stamp of approval on an upcoming Legally Blonde 3 film, but with a condition: Jennifer Coolidge has to be involved.

“I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,” Witherspoon told Entertainment Tonight. “She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now.”

Witherspoon played Harvard Law School student Elle Woods alongside Coolidge’s nail tech character, Paulette Bonafonté Parcelle, in both the 2001 film and its ’03 sequel.

“She’s just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her,” the Your Place or Mine star continued. “She gets up there and everybody’s like, ‘I love her,’ but she’s just done a lot of good work in our business for so long that it’s really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.”

Coolidge, 61, won a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film last month for her performance in HBO’s The White Lotus. She won an Emmy for the role last September.

While there has been limited talk on the new installment of the Legally Blonde franchise, according to Deadline, Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor signed on in 2020 to give the series a “fresh take” in an upcoming movie.

Witherspoon herself approached Kaling about being involved in the next film.

In 2021, Kaling admitted that it was taking time and several drafts because “there are so many iconic moments [in the film] that we have to come up with our new version of that.” The Never Have I Ever writer confirmed that Coolidge will “1,000 percent” be involved.

“I have not seen the script. I am told Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon are talking about it and I hear it is going to be finished soon,” Coolidge said in July 2021. “I hope I am alive by then.”

Coolidge had big hopes for a 20th anniversary celebration of Legally Blonde.

“It’s going to be like a giant jet ride to somewhere really far away and I think there must be a party in some big castle or something,” she gushed at the time. “At least that’s what I will be hoping for.”
