Sarah Jessica Parker Breaks Hearts With Goodbye Tribute to Carrie Bradshaw

And just like that...Sex and the City fans are officially saying goodbye to their favorite fictional New York-based besties.
This week, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced that the Sex and the City spin-off series And Just Like That...—which follows the characters from the original series as they continue to navigate life and love—has come to an end. The HBO show is currently finishing up its third season, with fans now aware that the upcoming final two episodes aren’t merely a season finale, but a two-part series finale.
“It became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” King said of the decision per Deadline. “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”
After the announcement, Sarah Jessica Parker took to her Instagram account to share a heartfelt goodbye message to Carrie Bradshaw—a character she originated and has played on and off for nearly three decades. Alongside the sweet sentiment, the actress crafted a montage of snapshots of the character throughout the years, showcasing how far both she and Bradshaw have come since the groundbreaking original series premiered back in 1998.
“She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus. Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people,” Parker penned in the caption. “Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections. Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.”
And Parker wasn’t the only cast member who took to social media to share their gratitude. Both Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbs, and Kristen Davis, who played Charlotte York, also shared separate statements on Instagram, with Davis writing, “I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.”
Plenty of fans and famous friends of the iconic actresses were also quick to hop in their comment sections to share their feelings, as well as their profound appreciation for their performances over the years:
“😭😭😭😭😭,” Barbie Ferreira wrote in the comments under Parker’s post.
“Beautifully said. Thank you for it all! xL,” Lauren Graham added.
“LOVE YOU FOREVER FOR GIVING US CARRIE 🙏🏽❤️😌,” Jeremy Scott exclaimed.
“Thank you for everything,” Sarita Choudhury, who played Seema Patel on And Just Like That..., simply said.
The penultimate episode of the series will be available for streaming on HBO Max beginning August 7, while the final episode will be available August 14.
