Selena Gomez’s Dramatic New Look Has Fans All Convinced of One Thing

The ‘Only Murders in the Building’ lead debuted her brand-new ‘do on Instagram.

Selena Gomez is rocking (pun intended) a new look this summer—and longtime fans of the 32-year-old can’t help but wonder if it prefaces a highly-awaited role for the SAG Award-winning actress.

In a black-and white snapshot shared on Instagram by her makeup artist Hung Vanngo this past weekend, Gomez’s striking hairstyle featured a shaggy long bob with wispy bangs. The voluminous layered cut framed her face and stopped around her collarbone, as the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place star cheesed in an adorable selfie alongside Vanngo.

And while users of the app enthusiastically cheered on Gomez’s newest look, there was one resounding theory that her loyal followers agreed on.

“Is this for the Linda Ronstadt biopic? 😍,” one fan asked.

“Linda is that you?” a fellow speculator chimed in.

“Oh thats [Linda Ronstadt] right there 👏😍,” another fan excitedly exclaimed.

“Linda Ronstadt! Finally!!!!” one user declared.

News of Gomez’s leading role as the rock-and-roll icon dates back to July 2023 from Showbiz 411 reporter Roger Friedman. Publications like Deadline and Variety then confirmed the casting announcement six months later in January 2024.

Additionally, Gomez herself gushed about the new project, which is based on the 2013 memoir Simple Dreams and directed by David O. Russell. “I have no words to describe my heart for this project ... years of hoping this dream would become my reality,” Gomez wrote in an Instagram story last year. “Love your heart and soul for life and music.”

However, information on the release of Ronstadt's biopic has been unclear. Its leading lady gave eager fans an update back in November 2024. “[The biopic] still happening, though I’m not sure when,” Gomez told The Hollywood Reporter. “But there’s a reason it’s taking time. We want to make sure it’s going to be good.”

Gomez also praised the 11-time Grammy Award-winning artist, who earned a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nod in 2014. “[Ronstadt] had such an interesting perspective on music and life, and I really admired that,” she continued. “She never really needed to be as successful, and she was willing to try different things.”

With her new appearance, also shared to Gomez’s Instagram feed early this morning with the caption, “I would, but I’d regret it, then get it redone so I simply wont #bangs,” fans have high hopes for the artist’s newest role. And, in the meantime, they’re loving her summertime look, regardless of what it may precede.

“MOTHER IS MOTHERING,” one user complimented.

“SHE LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL 😍,” another fan agreed.
