Serena Williams Announces She Is Expecting Baby No. 2, Debuts Baby Bump on Met Gala Red Carpet
Rumor has it no one gets a plus one to the Met Gala. Unless you’re Serena Williams. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion broke the exciting news to her 16.5 million Instagram followers just before she debuted her baby bump on the Met Gala red carpet on May 1.
“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” she captioned a post of herself and her husband, Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, in their unique outfits for the biggest night in fashion.
The couple, who got married in 2017, are already parents to 5-year-old daughter Olympia.
Williams made the decision last year to “evolve away” from playing tennis professionally in order to focus on expanding her family.
“In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family,” Williams wrote in a self-penned Vogue essay. “I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”
The 41-year-old rocked a stunning navy blue Gucci gown featuring a plunging neckline with bedazzled trim and a white veil mesh train on the lower third of the dress. She accessorized with several layered Tiffany & Co. pearl necklaces—a nod to designer Karl Lagerfeld, the theme of the evening—and a matching tiered headband from LELET NY. The entire look was styled by Kesha McLeod.
