Shortly after announcing her return to competitive gymnastics, seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles has issued a sincere note of appreciation to her many fans floored by the news.

“sorry I’ve been a little MIA since the announcement 🤍,” she wrote on Twitter on July 5. “I’m overwhelmed with all of your messages, support & love! excited to get back out on the competition floor! XOXO 🫶.”

When the official USA Gymnastics Instagram account shared that Biles would return to competition—for the first time in two years—at the 2023 U.S. Classic in August, fans shared their overwhelming support in the comments section.

“Absolutely STACKED field of competitors this year 🔥,” one person wrote.

“THE GOAT IS BACK,” another fan applauded.

“BRB crying about Simone being back,” someone else added.

“NO FREAKING WAY! SIMONE?!” another person declared. “BRB sobbing happy tears!!!!!”

Biles last competed in her sport at the Tokyo Games in 2021. She ultimately withdrew from the competition in order to prioritize her mental health after experiencing the “twisties.” Since then, the 26-year-old has become a major mental health advocate.

The U.S. Classic will take place in Illinois August 4 and 5, which serves as a qualifying meet for the U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
