While tennis may have been her chosen sport for the past 17 or so years, Canadian professional athlete Genie Bouchard is making a change in the coming year. The 29-year-old and the Professional Tour of Pickleball (PPA) together announced on Sept. 7 that Bouchard will be joining the PPA tour in 2024.

The Instagram post that Bouchard jointly shared with her 2.4 million followers welcomed the athlete to the tour, teasing her official debut in the next calendar year.

“With one of the biggest signings of the year ✍️ Genie Bouchard, professional tennis star with a WTA #5 career high in singles, joins the PPA Tour in 2024! 👏,” the caption read, highlighting some of the star’s achievements and skill on the tennis court, which are likely to translate to the pickleball court.

She received some support on the post, including from former American tennis icon John Isner. “Wimby finalist. Not bad @ppatour LFG!” he wrote in the comment section, acknowledging her 2014 appearance in the Wimbledon finals—more of the Montreal native’s impressive tennis court career.

While it is clear that Bouchard will be playing on the professional pickleball tour next year, it is not yet understood whether she intends to continue playing professional tennis as well. The star played as recently as the US Open qualifiers in late August, and she has not officially announced retirement from her first professional endeavor. So, we hope to be cheering our favorite Canadian professional on in both sports next season.
