Before she was named co-winner of the 2018 Swim Search, Haley Kalil traveled to Belize for her first-ever SI Swimsuit photo shoot alongside photographer Yu Tsai. The 30-year-old model and media personality returned to the publication the following year and reunited with the same photographer in Kenya.

In 2020, Kalil was photographed by Josie Clough in the British Virgin Islands, while her most recent magazine feature with the brand was in ’21, when she posed for James Macari in Hollywood, Fla.

“I never wore things like that before just because I didn’t really have a reason to... because it was Sports Illustrated and because I was shooting [with] Yu Tsai, it’s just so comfortable and it’s so natural to embrace who you are as a woman and your sex appeal,” Kalil told SI Swimsuit of her time on location in Belize. “It really just came naturally to me. I didn’t feel forced, I didn’t feel uncomfortable. It was just kind of like this amazing transition where it just felt like, ‘this is the moment that I’m supposed to be sexy,’ and I took that moment and ran with it and loved every part of it.”

Below are six of our favorite photos from Kalil’s 2018 feature.
