Yumi Nu Says Posing for SI Swimsuit Led Her to Embrace This Swimwear Trend

Last year’s cover model shared her secret to feeling great in a bikini.

Yumi Nu returns to the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue for her third feature with the franchise. Nu made her debut two years ago after posing for photographer Yu Tsai in Tampa, Fla., and landed one of four magazine covers in ’22. She worked with James Macari in Montenegro that year.

The model and musician recently chatted with InStyle about her 2023 photo shoot with the magazine, which took place in Dominica and was captured by Amanda Pratt. Nu even divulged a swimwear secret, which she said she adopted as a result of working with SI Swimsuit.

“I’ve definitely been a big fan of tiny little bikinis. I actually think that shooting with Sports Illustrated put me on a tiny bikini kick because I feel like I just feel hotter than in a more full, classic full-coverage swimsuit, I guess,” Nu admitted. “Just buy one that’s two sizes too small, and then you're good to go.”

Regardless of the type of swimsuit she’s rocking, Nu told SI Swimsuit that posing on location with a female photographer was incredible and instantly put her at ease.

“Woman-to-woman, you feel more comfortable to be vulnerable and try things and there’s just an understanding,” she said. “Amanda really gets in the shot with you and gets in the water and gets down in the fishnet, she will do whatever it takes for the shot and for me, as a model, that means so much because it makes me motivated to get the shot.”
