As the official host of the 2023 Hawai’i Swim Show, I had the chance to spend the weekend at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, and by the third night I found myself considering all of the possible ways to never have to leave. If you are looking for the perfect resort for your tropical trip, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa checks all of the boxes.

Experiences

Whether you opt for a lounging on the beach type of vacation or you are eager to keep yourself active, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has you covered. For those who prefer the latter, the A’bay Beach Hut offers an array of beach and water sport activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, boat excursions and more. For those who are looking to soak up the sun, the outdoor infinity pool is pristine and peaceful with tons of chaise lounges as well as day beds ideal for taking it easy.

Dining

The resort is home to 2022 OpenTable Diners Choice Award-winning restaurant Hawaii Calls, in addition to an open-air terrace cafe, a luau-style dining experience and in-room dining service.

With carefully crafted menus, 95% of the resort’s food and beverage offerings are locally sourced. Big Island born and raised executive chef Jayson Kanekoa uses his local ties to source the finest and freshest ingredients for every dish. I highly recommend the poke bowls.

Location

Situated on the Kohala Coast, the resort is just a short drive from the Kona International Airport and overlooks Anaeho’omalu Bay. Home to breathtaking sunsets, the resort is surrounded by white sand and picturesque mountains. Nearby attractions include Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Mauna Kea Observatories, City of Refuge, Imiloa Astronomy Center and Volcano Winery.

And, if you're looking to do some shopping, Queens’ Marketplace and Kings’ Shops are within walking distance from the resort.

Accommodations

All of the rooms at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa are spacious and full of light. Accommodations range from pool view doubles to ocean view suites and everything in between, all with decor inspired by the island’s beauty.

My Personal Highlights

The land where Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa now sits was once occupied by an ancient fishing village. One of my favorite parts of the resort was the walking trails through these fish ponds. Considered sacred, this is the perfect place to take some time to yourself and connect with nature while gaining a deeper appreciation for the area’s culture.
