Lauren Chan Praises ‘Role Model’ Selena Gomez’s Honest Message About Body Image

Lauren Chan has established herself as a body positivity advocate. She consistently shares content encouraging others to feel confident in their own bodies. Largely, her posts focus on her own experience, but her latest is full of praise for another well-known name.

The model has declared Selena Gomez her latest “role model” when it comes to body acceptance and honest messages about body image. In a recent Instagram story, Gomez shared a throwback bikini photo alongside a thoughtful caption. “Today, I realized I will never look like this again,” it read. The next slide featured a more recent photo of her in a two-piece with a caption that stated “I’m not perfect but I am proud to be who I am.. sometimes I forget it’s O.K. to be me.”

According to Chan’s commentary in her Instagram reel, Gomez’s message was clear and important. “I think she really hits the nail on the head here by calling out the way that industries like entertainment and fashion use the bodies of almost pre-pubescent women as beauty standards,” she said in the short clip. “Obviously chasing the physical form of a super young girl is physiologically impossible,” but these industries try to “trick us into thinking we can.”

“@selenagomez is the best role model in Hollywood, period! She recently posted this Instagram story and it hit me right in the heart,” Chan wrote in the caption. “I don’t know how many years I held onto jeans from my teenage years, or had the size of my junior prom dress burned into my mind. I’m so glad to be free from chasing an impossible standard: a not-yet-grown-up girl. ❤️‍🩹 Hope this is a moment for you to reflect on body image too!”

The message that Gomez shared and Chan reiterated is a meaningful one. Beauty standards often aren’t realistic, and embracing a positive body image is paramount.
