This Weighted Ab Finisher Is the Key to Toning Your Midsection

Kayla Itsines just dropped this spicy set, and you need to try it.

Ab workout

Ab workout.

Toning your abs is a challenge, but it’s far from impossible. The key, of course, is embracing particular workouts that are particularly intended to target your midsection—and adding a little bit of weight wouldn’t hurt, either.

That’s exactly what Kayla Itsines did in her latest Instagram workout tutorial. The cofounder of Sweat—the digital platform offering hundreds of on-demand workouts starting at just $19.99 per month—and personal trainer knows how to curate an effective strength routine. And that’s just what her latest ab finisher set is: effective.

Sometimes, at the end of a strength set or cardio routine, you’re left wanting a little extra burn in your core. If that’s the case, there is no better set to add on to your typical fitness routine than the following. The (mostly) weighted five-move finisher is bound to tone your abs. Itsines recommended completing the following movements two times over with no rest in between rounds.

  1. Dumbbell Russian twist (20 reps)
  2. Weighted straight-leg sit-up (12 reps)
  3. Dumbbell bent-leg jackknife (12 reps)
  4. Russian twist (20 reps)
  5. Leg raise with hip lift (12 reps)

“Add this to the end of any of your strength training days to get your abs burning!!” Itsines instructed of the set in her caption.

If you want more content like this, be sure to check out her Instagram account, where Itsines frequently posts quick sets and accompanying demonstrations. But the best place to go is the Sweat App, which offers strength classes and cardio routines ranging from low- to high-intensity and everything in between.
