Lindsey Vonn gave her 2.7 million Instagram followers an update from Zauchensee, Austria, today, Jan. 9, before hitting the slopes for a duo of World Cup races over the weekend. However, what was originally intended to be a practice day for the 41-year-old Alpine skier turned out to be otherwise, as she explained in a 46-second reel captured on the slopes.

She penned as in the post’s caption, “Too much snow means no training for us today… the irony of our sport is we pray for snow but can’t ski if we get too much lol.” Still, the change of plans may have been for the best. She continued in the note, “On the positive side it gives me a little time to rest. Seem to have picked up a cold or something but generally not feeling too bad. So will use this time wisely!”

On location for the Zauchensee World Cup, where she will compete in the women’s downhill race on Saturday, Jan. 10, and the super G on Jan. 11, Vonn shared a video of her terrain as snow continued to pile up in her path, while fans issued their takes on the peculiar predicament.

“‘PLEASE SNOW! Well no not like that...’ Lindsey probably.” One commenter joked.

Another suggested that the surge of snow was serendipitous by suggesting, “Mother nature is helping you take care of your cold! Get some rest and hopefully feel great for race tomorrow!”

Vonn’s overseas endeavor marks her latest step en route to the Olympic Winter Games. The four-time Olympian shared on Instagram that she qualified for Milano Cortina 2026 in late December, marking her “5th and final” time on the global stage.

The athlete wrote, “When I made the decision to return to ski racing, I always had one eye on Cortina because it’s a place that is very, very special to me. Although I can’t guarantee any outcomes, I can guarantee that I will give my absolute best every time l kick out of the starting gate. No matter how these games end up, I feel like I’ve already won.”

Per U.S. Ski and Snowboard, Vonn is currently joined on the U.S. Olympic Alpine Team by Mikaela Shiffrin and Paula Moltzan. Both Vonn and Shiffrin lead the trio with three medals each (two gold and one silver for Shiffrin and one gold and two bronze for Vonn). Moltzan will participate in her second global games after an appearance in Beijing in 2022.
