Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour may be coming to a close in Los Angeles, but the 26-year-old multi-hyphenate isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, she’s taking her talents from the stage to the screen, Variety reported earlier this month, as the leading lady in an Alice in Wonderland-inspired movie musical.

Less than a week after the news was revealed on Nov. 11, Marc Platt—who will produce the project alongside Carpenter—gave more insight into the upcoming production at the New York City premiere of another on-screen musical adaptation, Wicked: For Good.

Platt told Variety, “It’s an idea that Sabrina‘s had, and so we’re just in the beginning stages.” He also revealed that the artist’s newest on-screen stint is “based loosely” on the original Disney film, which made its animated debut in 1951. In 2010, Disney released a live-action rendition of the film, directed by Tim Burton, which starred Mia Wasikowska as the titular character.

“We sat down and we talked about it. I thought, she’s such a talented and young person and a voice. I love her music and she was just smart and articulate,” Platt detailed. After their convo, the two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner was ultimately on board, telling the artist, “‘Let’s take a shot at it.’” As of today, Nov. 20, there’s no timeline for the movie musical’s release, and Platt specified that it is in “early days.”

However, both Carpenter and Platt are currently wrapping up individual projects of their own. Carpenter is completing the final leg of her Short n’ Sweet Tour—which has been on the road for over a year—with six shows in Los Angeles The week-long endeavor began on Sunday, Nov. 16, and runs through the following Sunday, Nov. 23. Carpenter will head back to Crypto.com Arena tonight, Nov. 20, to for her fourth show, and will return to the stadium for her final two performances on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Platt, on the other hand, is celebrating his latest production, Wicked: For Good. The second installment of the two-part project releases in theaters on Friday, Nov. 21. He produced both movies, as well as the beloved Broadway show.

According to Screen Rant, the producers said, “They are a compliment to each other in evolution, but they’re very different.” He continued, “Each stands really on its own, separately, but when you do get to see them all together, it’s quite something.”
