Olivia Culpo’s Hairstylist Shares Her Secret for the Perfect Slicked-Back Bun

Before cheering on her husband, Christian McCaffrey, as he accepted the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year award at the NFL Honors on Thursday, Olivia Culpo arrived to the San Francisco event at the Palace of Fine Arts hand in hand with the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver.
At the event, the model and former Miss Universe donned a sheer white gown and platform heels, and added a pair of drop earrings to complete her elegant ensemble. Her hair, styled by Amanda Lee, was pulled into a chic, slick-back bun to showcase the model's glowy makeup look, which was on full display as she beamed at her husband on stage later in the night.
Following the festivities, Lee disclosed just how she created Culpo's hairstyle. Our favorite part of the process, however, is that every product she used is on the market, so you can snag everything you need to replicate the stylist's routine today.

Paul Mitchell Pro Tools 427, $15.50, (amazon.com)
Lee began by “smoothing out Olivia's hair,” she stated and credited the blowdryer she used as Paul Mitchell’s Neuro Dry+ Dryer ($250). She then grabbed this Pro Tools 427 brush from the same label to accompany the hot tool.
Paul Mitchell Firm Style Super Clean Sculpting Gel, $9 to $27.50, (ulta.com)
Lee called this Paul Mitchell gel the “hero product" of her creation. “Using a generous amount of Paul Mitchell Firm Style Super Clean Sculpting Gel and working in sections, I put her hair into a ponytail,” the stylist continued. She also added that she reached for the same product while putting her hair into the crafted slicked-back bun, along with some “French hair pins” to keep the up-do fixed to the model’s head.
Paul Mitchell Firm Hold Stay Strong Hairspray, $27, on sale for $25 (amazon.com)
Precision was key in Lee’s procedure, and “once the bun was exactly how [she] wanted it” she finished off the look by spraying some Firm Hold Stay Strong Hairspray “on a toothbrush to clean up any flyaways.” The stylist noted that the addition of the hairspray at the end made sure that the hairstyle would stay in place for the entire event.
