Suni Lee Shares Her Biggest Fashion Ick—and Her Answer May Surprise You

Suni Lee may be known for her prowess as an Olympic gymnast, but the 23-year-old athlete is also a powerhouse in the style department.
Lee proved as much in her latest Instagram carousel, posted to her feed on Thursday, April 2, in which she wore a blue and black tweed jacket and skirt set with leather trim. In addition to her Chanel ensemble, the Minnesota native carried a small black clutch by the luxury designer and wore a pair of pointed-toe black stilettos on her feet. Get the full rundown on her impeccable look here.
The athlete was dressed to the nines to participate in a storytelling panel alongside fellow athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall, who teamed up with Coach to chat about their careers, the intersection of fashion and sports and more.
Marie Claire had the opportunity to catch up with Lee at the New York City event, and during a quick social media segment, Lee revealed her biggest fashion ick of the moment: tight pants.
“I think if you do it right, though, it can look good, but I think skinny jeans do it for me,” she said, deeming the trend—which is currently seeing a resurgence in popularity—a fashion faux-pas.
While Lee is not a fan of skin-tight pants, the figure-skimming silhouette has been en vogue recently, but so has a variety of other denim—from low-rise to straight leg pairs, the classic garment really offers a fit and style for just about any personal taste, regardless of what’s trending.
Last fall, the athlete gravitated toward dark denim in an October photo carousel, and her wide-leg trousers from a Sept. 16, 2025, Instagram post are all the proof we need that Lee really does prefer a loose-fitting jean.
The great thing about fashion is that personal style really comes down to preference, and Lee puts her most confident foot forward in pieces she feels best in. Lee, who always seems to have a self-assured attitude about her, also offered up her tips for anyone who is struggling to feel confident in their own skin during her discussion with Marie Claire.
“My key to feeling confident, I feel like, is just being comfortable and confident in my own skin,” she added. “I think a lot of the time, we get kinda lost in the sauce and get overwhelmed with everything, and you just need to sit back and realize how amazing you are and all the work that you’ve put in and embrace it and to never be afraid.”
