Things just got a whole lot more interesting on Bachelor in Paradise. In case you missed it, last week’s episode marked the big twist—marking a franchise first—with host Jesse Palmer announcing the change to the competition this year. Instead of new arrivals coming in week after week, the remaining contestants will only have each other to pick from. And, oh yeah, through competitions and eliminations, there’s half a million dollars on the line.

It’s evident ABC felt like it was time for a major change for Bachelor in Paradise. And while that isn’t entirely surprising—the show has been going on pretty much the same for 10 seasons, after all—Paradise remains a favorite amongst reality TV lovers, so much so that some changes this season have been met with criticism. (Looking at you, new opening theme).

Check out the preview for the Aug. 11 episode below, followed by our live recap.

Recap

In any case, now everything has changed on Bachelor in Paradise Season 10. And not even TV scooper Reality Steve knows all of the spoilers. We recapped tonight’s new episode live right here.

Tonight’s episode opens up by tying some loose ends from last week. Faith has an emotional conversation with Kim following last week’s “Birds of Paradise” challenge where Kim’s increased heart rate forced him to seek medical assistance.

He tells Faith he’s going to monitor things and see what happens, which makes Faith cry over her concern that he’s unwell or going home. Meanwhile, Lea finds out that Jonathon just wants to be friends.

It doesn’t take long for the games to begin this week. Wells and Hannah come by the hotel to deliver the news that it’s time for their next relationship test in a secret garden. As Jesse explains, the rules for the game “Secret Rendezvous” see contestants answer questions about themselves individually. Whichever couple gets the most matching answers wins, and surprisingly, that couple is Lea and Jonathon.

As another twist in this challenge, contestants will also find out if they get matching answers with another person who they aren’t been coupled up with. They are given the chance to explore that afterward in a “secret rendezvous.” Get the name of the game now?

While multiple contestants have the chance to do a secret rendezvous, none of them seem to actually consider it—though Brian asks Bailey to think about it.

And, after the challenge, the group will then vote on which man will not receive a rose to hand out at the next ceremony.

When he’s alone, Brian expresses that he’s happy he was matched with Bailey, declaring in his confessional: “There’s a lot on my chest that I want to get off.” But Bailey doesn’t feel the same way. When she receives a note from Brian asking to meet up, she’s confused, knowing that he’s formed a connection with Parisa. This puts her in a weird place, and she eventually goes to confide in Jeremy. She tells him she’s annoyed by Brian and that they should send him home.

Jonathon and Lea then have a good chat, where Lea explains that she just wishes he were honest with her. Because he’s so back and forth, Lea decides she doesn’t want to be with him anyway, because she refuses to chase after someone who needs convincing. Their conversation ends on a positive note, and they express wanting to work together to play the game with their heads and not their hearts.

Meanwhile, Parisa grows suspicious and confronts Brian, who tells her that he wants to talk to Bailey about something that’s not romantic. He reveals that Jeremy wanted to leave Bailey for Susie, and even called her to try and get her to come back. In his confessional, Brian shares that Jeremy allegedly said he would propose to Susie “on the spot,” something that Bailey doesn’t know.

After some internal debating, Brian decides to tell Bailey everything. Of course, this news brings Bailey to tears, and she says she wants to go home. She then confronts Jeremy, who admits to calling Susie, though he tells Bailey he does not regret choosing her. It all seems to be a bit too little too late, however, as she still wants to go home.

Meanwhile, the other contestants question why Brian would decide to tell Bailey, and he wonders if he made the wrong decision.

Alexe checks on Bailey, feeling guilty that she didn’t tell her what had happened. During a stroll on the beach, Bailey talks to Jeremy again and seems more open to staying. She’s in a tough place where she doesn’t want to go home, but she also feels like she has to if Jeremy isn’t committed to her. He denies saying he wanted to propose to Susie, and Bailey seems to believe him.

Meanwhile, we don’t get much from the Goldens this week. We get a brief scene of Kathy and Keith gossiping about Faith and Kim, but that’s about it. Tonight’s episode is definitely all about the Brian/Bailey/Jeremy situation.

At the cocktail party, Jeremy and Bailey are all loved up again, and eventually Jeremy confronts Brian for ratting him out. Brian is surprised to learn that most of the other contestants are against him in this, believing he shouldn’t have meddled. “That’s just not how bro code works,” Andrew says. One of the only people on Brian’s side is Wells, who watches all the drama unfold from the bar.

Rose ceremony and eliminations

Before the rose ceremony, the group gets to vote on which man won’t receive a rose to hand out. While some of the contestants vote for Kim because of his health issues, others are adamant that Brian goes home. In the end, it’s revealed that Kim has been voted off, and along with him goes Faith.

Here are the pairings this week in the rose ceremony:

  • Jonathon and Lea
  • Spencer and Jess
  • Andrew and Alexe
  • Dale and Kat
  • Sean and Allyshia
  • Jeremy and Bailey
  • Keith and Kathy
  • Brian and Parisa

And here’s who goes home:

  • Kim
  • Faith

What happened last week

In Week 5, the men had all the power, with Natascha, April and Nancy going home. But that’s not all: Leslie and Gary were voted off by Bailey and Jeremy after the relationship test, a sad moment for fans—and fellow contestants—shipping them. As they said their goodbyes, they hinted that they’d be pursuing their romance off the beach, but Leslie confirmed on the Happy Hour podcast that they are “best friends” at the moment, per Decider.

Not only are contestants determined to find their soulmates, but now they have to prove that they’re right for each other, too. Each week will see the remaining cast members participate in challenges to test just how compatible they are, and the weakest links will have to go home.

Though Reality Steve has limited spoilers for the rest of the season with this new change in format, he does believe he knows who ends up winning this year. But, of course, we won’t spoil that for you here. Check out his episodic breakdown on Instagram here.
