Lindsey Vonn Shares Injury Update After Surgery Lasting ‘More Than 6 Hours’

Lindsey Vonn shared another injury update following her latest surgery, reporting the operation took “more than six hours.”
The decorated Olympian has undergone multiple surgeries over the past month following injuries sustained during the 2026 Milan Cortina Games when she unfortunately crashed 13 seconds into her downhill race on Sunday, Feb. 8. As a result of the crash, the athlete was airlifted to a nearby medical facility for evaluation, later letting fans on Instagram know she “sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly.”
Vonn undergoes surgeries for injury
While in Italy, Vonn underwent four surgeries, taking her social media followers along each step of the way as she continued to heal. Then, earlier this week, she reported that she would finally be returning home to the U.S., writing in a caption, “My leg is still in pieces... but I’m finally HOME! Intensive care unit ➡️ ambulance ➡️ plane ➡️ ambulance ➡️ 🇺🇸 hospital.”
And the Olympian continued her trend of transparency today, returning to Instagram for another update after her fifth surgery. “Made it through surgery... it took a bit more than 6 hours to complete. As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together but Dr Hackett did an incredible job,” Vonn penned in the caption. She went on to thank the medical team before adding, “With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet... almost there. Baby steps.”
In the Instagram carousel accompanying the caption, the Olympian included a video taken as she was wheeled away, throwing the camera a quick peace sign. She also included a look at multiple X-rays, showcasing the sheer amount of aforementioned “plates and screws” utilized to heal her injury.
Fans continue to rally around Vonn
Fans, fellow athletes and famous friends of the Olympian have also been out en masse, rallying behind Vonn with support and love. Her latest update was no different, with countless words of praise found in her comment section.
“I love u,” model and reality TV star Brooks Nader simply wrote.
“You got this strong woman ❤️,” fellow Olympian Jutta Leerdam added.
“You’re almost more bionic than me! If anyone’s got this it’s you!” Paralympic medalist Amy Purdy added, “And, Dr Hacket is the best I’m happy you have the best team helping you. 🙌 🙌 🙌 ❤️.”
“Olivia Benson will ALWAYS be there for you!!” Actress Mariska Hargitay, who also visited the athlete in the hospital, declared.
We’re wishing Vonn a speedy recovery, and we’ll continue to update as she progresses.
