We’re in Awe of Carrie Underwood’s Latest Rendition of ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’

The singer nailed her performance, but we never expected otherwise.

The Christmas hit “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” will forever be a timeless and moving holiday ballad. But, Carrie Underwood’s live version somehow gets better every year, even when we thought that wasn’t quite possible.

The country music star shared her latest rendition of the song, which she first released on her seventh studio album and first Christmas project, My Gift, in 2020. The song was originally cowritten by songwriters Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, and musician Judy Garland debuted it in the 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis.

In her Instagram post, the 40-year-old musician also explained the reasons why the song will always be so special and important to her.

“‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ is another Christmas standard,” Underwood wrote on-screen. “I love the melody of this song. I love the simplicity of this song. There’s just something about it that kind of fills a different space on the My Gift album as a whole. I loved getting in the studio and singing it, and I’m just really proud that it’s part of the album.”

“It makes you think about people that you miss, people that you haven’t seen in a while. Some people aren’t going to be able to go visit their families for Christmas, and we miss them when we can’t be together,” she continued. “When you think about songs like this, it’s always timely even though it was written forever ago. And as an adult, it definitely hits harder.”

The eight-time Grammy Award winner belted each lyric as she donned a cozy and festive sea green velvet dress and held a microphone close to her face. She rocked a full sparkly glam look, including wispy lashes and a glossy nude lip, and her long blonde locks were parted to one side and styled into smooth and subtle waves.
