This Is the One Daily Wellness Practice That Melissa Wood-Tepperberg Swears by
The understanding is that January is for new practices. Out with the old, in with the new, right? And while we here at SI Lifestyle believe that creating habits that will last should be a continual goal throughout the year, we do understand that the impetus of a fresh calendar can be the necessary push to make our aspirations a reality.
If you are looking to add practices to your daily and weekly regimen, there is just one that workout and wellness leader Melissa Wood-Tepperberg would absolutely recommend you embrace: dry brushing.
She is an adamant proponent of the wellness technique, which she performs “every day before the shower (also pre-sauna for a real boost),” she said in a recent Instagram video. “It’s a massive part of my routine. I rarely get in the shower without this step because it helps to wake up and stimulate your lymphatic system (which helps to flush out and reduce toxins in your body).”
Dry brushing has both internal and external benefits, meaning it enhances both your appearance and your body’s function for a total-body boost. “Not only does it exfoliate your skin, it helps to increase circulation and blood flow throughout your body,” Wood-Tepperberg noted.
Her technique is simple: “I personally go up the limbs and down the torso (some believe every stroke should be toward the heart) but from getting lymphatic drainage massages for over a decade I have experienced that going down the torso personally helps me flush way more fluids,” she said.
While Wood-Tepperberg would never force anyone into a routine or habit they didn’t want, she does wholeheartedly recommend the practice. And she suggests making it a regular habit, too. “Just like everything, consistency is key to experiencing those long-lasting results,” she remarked.
