While SI Swimsuit’s Big 12 Homecoming tour has come to a close, the wisdom that brand talent shared during panel events at various college campuses throughout the U.S. this fall is timeless.

Sixtine, a rookie in the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue, was on hand during SI Swimsuit’s “Be You Women’s Empowerment Series,” presented by Maybelline, at the University of Cincinnati on Sept. 21, alongside fellow models Christen Harper and Ellie Thumann. The trio of women discussed all things mental health and took questions from an eager audience of attendees.

While the 25-year-old body neutrality influencer divulged her unusual form of self-care during the conversation, she also discussed overcoming challenges and shared a quote that she lives by that we believe is worth repeating.

“I think the biggest challenge has been getting out of my own way,” Sixtine notes. “A lot of us don’t realize just how much we can accomplish if we just let ourselves do it.”

The model then added that her mother, who is a life coach, often shares inspirational quotes with her, and there’s one that stands out among the rest when it comes to reframing her outlook.

“The one that sticks with me is, ‘life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you,’” Sixtine states. “And the second you realize that, and the second you realize that like not everything is ‘oh my God, everything’s happening to me, this agent rejected me and it’s because they don’t think I’m pretty and blah blah blah...’ You can go down this victim spiral and you can have your pity party, but at some point you have to realize that it’s up to you to do it, and it’s up to you to get out of your own way. If you want something, just do it. Just go for it. You’re the only one stopping you, not everyone else, not the agency that’s telling you no. Like, O.K., an agency told you no, go to another one. Just do it.”
